Top 5 reasons to book an engagement photo shoot

Why not capture the euphoria of your engagement with professional photographs? If you haven’t already considered it, here are some reasons why you should:

1.    Part of the package – take advantage of the opportunity that many photographers will offer you a complimentary or discounted engagement shoot if you book them for your wedding.

2.    Build a rapport with your photographer – This will be your first opportunity to work with your photographer. It gives both parties a chance to bond and get to know each other’s personalities and preferences. Feeling comfortable around your photographer is key to an effortless, laid back shoot. You can also use the shoot as a chance to get accustomed to being in front of the camera and for getting used to certain posed angles and positions.

3.    A way to address your concerns – Many people are “camera shy” and this is why a shoot can help allay some of their camera fears. Brides may be worried about not photographing well, photos taken from certain angles which don’t flatter them or simply concerned about how to pose, in order to camouflage certain physical flaws.

All of these issues can easily be worked out during an engagement shoot. Many couples feel more confident after the photo shoot, having been privy to the photographer’s directions, tips and cues.

4.    An opportunity to improvise and experiment – Most of the times, an engagement shoot is fairly informal (unless you want to go for formal, posed shots). Since the shoot will be more casual, you have free reign to experiment with different types of photos, locations, poses and lighting. In a way, the shoot can be considered as a dress rehearsal for the photo shoot on your wedding day.

5.    Mementos – Your engagement photos can be used on your “save the date” cards, invitations or even thank you cards. You can also incorporate them into the reception décor, wedding favours (think coasters!) or a projected slideshow during your cocktail hour.
Some other styling tips for your engagement shoot are:

Selecting your wardrobe – Always be aware of the background for your shoot. You wouldn’t want to blend in! One example is avoiding wearing green if your shoot will take place in a garden or park. Another colour may pop better, such as white, ivory or even brighter colours such as purple, red or orange.

It is also best to wear clothing you’re most comfortable in for your shoot. If your style is more casual, try not to turn into someone unrecognizable in a cocktail dress and stilettos on your shoot! The best option is to stay true to your style and clothing preferences. Try to avoid clothing that will become see-through in the sunlight or clothing that will show your underwear or perspiration stains, if you’re doing an outdoor shoot.

Having props or a certain theme - Many couples choose to use parasols, balloons, cars, bicycles or beach balls, to inject more personality and interest during their shoot. Couples are now incorporating their pets and favourite memorabilia (books, collector items or heirlooms) even more, as well.

Choose a meaningful location – Engagement shoots are not usually done in studio; most are done off-site or on location. Your choice of location can be as simple as having it at home, if that’s where you’re most comfortable.

However, if you would like to be more adventurous, your shoot is an ideal time to select a location that reflects your interests. For example, if you are a sports fan, you can choose to shoot in a stadium or playing field or if you love to dine out, you can do your shoot al fresco, at your favourite restaurant or café. Many couples choose locations that are off-the-beaten path such as: on a rooftop, beachside, a movie theatre, on a bridge or near to monuments or places of architectural interest.

TrinidadWeddings.com...giving a voice to "solopreneurs"

One thing I’ve learned about being in the wedding industry in Trinidad and Tobago, is that in the majority, the industry consists of small to medium-sized operators or vendors; and of the small ones, there are micro-operators.

These “solopreneurs” are the ones who have taken their love of decorating, consulting and creating and made their hobbies into sideline businesses.

When I started TrinidadWeddings.com in mid-2004, one of the visions was to create a “voice” or “platform” for those very solopreneurs – the people who would never be found in their amazing niches if it wasn’t for the internet and the TW Wed-Zine magazine.

Eight years later, we are more than ever committed to finding avenues where buyers can “support local” and where our advertised vendors can get maximum value.

This is why we will be partnering with Eventuality Limited for The Ultimate Epicurean and Boutique Market on October 27 at the Crown Plaza’s Ballroom.

It’s the first installment of markets for the Holiday season and is designed to facilitate independent vendors or independent business owners who need additional opportunities to market their services through in-house promotions and on screen advertising.

Andrea Coutain, Event Developer for Eventuality Lifestyle Events says “This event is different from the other “markets” as a vendor gets more than a table; vendors are given event marketing support leading up to the event and product marketing support at the event.”

There will be fantastic products and sampling from the Sweet and Savory section, make-up demonstrations and products in the Wellness and Beauty section. Customers can try on fashion clothing and accessories in the Jewelry and Apparel section and get home essentials at the Home, Art and Décor section.

TrinidadWeddings.com will be there to offer advice to brides-to-be and to offer a selection of top-quality bridal jewellery, hair ornaments and sashes. TW Wed-Zine magazines and bridal emergency kits will also be on sale.

Entertainment will be provided by Peter Louis of the band Zandolee and Random Rewards to customers throughout the day.

The Ultimate Epicurean and Boutique Market is supported by TrinidadWeddings.com, Heartbeat 103.5FM – Radio for Women, Gourmet Market by XE, AVit Support and First Batch Gourmet Cookies – Homemade from Scratch.

Admission is free of charge to the public, so I hope to see you there!

Wedding Ideas and Trends – in 2011 issue of Trinidad Weddings’ Bridal Magazine

The launch of the 2011 issue of the Collector’s Edition Wedding Magazine, published by our website, www.trinidadweddings.com will happen at Booth D, The Wonderful Wedding Show, during March 26th and 27, 2011 at Movietowne’s Banquet & Conference Centre, Trinidad.

It will be sold at an introductory price of TT$35.00 and from April 2011, will be sold online on the www.trinidadweddings.com website (through safe & secure credit card purchase!). This year, with our 2nd magazine, we’ve shared the creative ideas we’ve seen out and about at weddings and unveiled local resources and vendors, to help Caribbean brides with their wedding planning.

We also wanted to recognize our readers from around the world and bring different cultures together! That’s why, in this issue, you can see what it would be like to have an exotic wedding in Thailand through the eyes of a gorgeous Trini bride who wed there.

You can even explore the rich history and beautiful details of Chinese weddings in Trinidad and Tobago and get inspired by a couple who had an all-out “Trini-styled” wedding extravaganza, with local touches everywhere!

And, we’ve got the scoop on bridal beauty, fitness and fashion secrets from some of Trinidad & Tobago’s renowned beauties and celebrities!

Like the 2010 issue, this 2011 magazine is infused with top-quality “Trini” content and images, wrapped up with international flair. Through our magazine, we not only wanted to portray the very best of what we have in our local wedding industry but our mission is to be the “go-to-source” for reporting on the latest happenings in the Caribbean and international bridal scene as well. This is why, I’ve done a bit of globe-trotting this past year, in order to give our readers a review of “The International Paris Bridal Fair,” so they can glimpse French bridal glamour at its best.

The magazine is a Collector’s item - a Limited Edition, so there are only limited copies in print. After the launch, magazines will be available at leading retailers, bookshops and pharmacies in Trinidad and Tobago, such as RIK, Superpharm, Kappa Drugs and more.
